RISD Museum Wants More Teens

Last month the RISD Museum instituted a new system of admission fees. In an effort to get more high school students through the doors, they have lowered the cost of admission for those aged 18-and-under to zero dollars.

Beginning in September, all youth and children aged 18 and under are invited to visit the Museum free of admission fees. A modest increase in adult daily admission charges and standard membership levels enables us to make this commitment to the youngest among us and brings the Museum on par with pricing regionally. (Please note that minors under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.)

Members have access to over 1,000 museums nationwide through their reciprocal membership programs. The list includes the Gardner Museum and the Peabody Essex Museum.

Members enjoy discounts at RISD Works, RISD Continuing Education, Café Pearl (seen to the right in this photo), and more.

Over 18 years-old but still kind of broke? Happily, the museum continues to offer one free year of museum membership to any Rhode Island resident who identifies as an artist or designer. (No proof of this status is required. It takes maybe ten minutes to apply.) Go here to join.

So . . . are you a Rhode Island resident? Do you identify as an artist or designer? What are you waiting for?

  1. I think inviting students in free makes perfect sense. Those of us who can afford the modest membership fee, of course, should support the museum, one of the very best (of its size) in the country.
