Full WaterFire

(9.8) A full 80-brazier WaterFire is scheduled for Saturday. While much is made of the water and the fire, imagine this event without the invisibly piped-in soundtrack, carefully curated by WaterFire creator Barnaby Evans. (The playlists are now available on Spotify.) This week’s music program will include: Edith Piaf, Vivaldi, Mike Figgis, Prokofiev, Bela Fleck, John Fahey, Dead Can Dance, Armenian folk music, Springsteen, and more.

This Saturday is Tech Night!

From 6pm to 11pm — Tech Night at WaterFire will bring together some of the most innovative and fastest growing technology companies in Rhode Island. The goals of the event are to increase awareness of local entrepreneurial and employment opportunities in technology, promote networking and collaboration among technology industry employees, and showcase some of the innovative products and services being pioneered in Rhode Island.

But don’t forget the regular WaterFire features like the Starry Starry Night display, the Arts Festival Plaza, or get out of the fray up in the Stephen Hopkins House — they keep late hours on WaterFire nights. Also on tap?

Fire Dancers Liz Knights and Andrew Lindsay from Cirque De Light

Sidewalk Astronomy will offer visitors the opportunity to learn about the stars and planets in the sky. Stop by their learning lab on the riverwalk near College Street.

Origami Master Andrew Anselmo will delight crowds of all ages near the RISD auditorium.

Mime artist Michael Grando will return again for this event. Be sure to catch Michael, in costume as the Commedia dell’arte character Pierrot, as he cruises the river tossing carnations to visitors along the shore.

There are 3 full fire dates remaining for the 2018 season: September 22nd, September 29th, and November 10th.

Braziers? There will forever be only one “brazier” for me, and that would be the Brazier Burger (TM) that was sold by Dairy Queen in the 80s and 90s; best burger ever, not kidding. Love the Daily Dose, just had to comment about the Brazier thing. Anyone else who has ever had one and is still alive please write.
