An unofficial litter patrol is forming on the Providence River and anyone can join. Providence Kayak rents single and tandem kayaks out to the public and they have an offer: If a customer comes back with 5 pieces of trash, the company will give them $5 off their next rental.
Judging from the reports, people are really getting into it. There is something satisfying about picking up trash — on land or sea — and making everything nice-nice. From a report on abc6 News:
“I definitely feel like there’s less garbage out there,” said Providence Kayak co-owner Matthew Haynes.
Haynes said the discount was inspired by his patrons, because they were already bringing trash back at the end of their rental.
New to kayaking? Providence Kayak promises, “Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned pro, our sit-on-top kayaks make it easy to navigate our serene waterways. Our competent and experienced staff will provide the equipment & guidance you’ll need to explore with confidence!” And everyone wears a life vest. (PK Facebook page.)
