WaterFire — Full Lighting

(8.3) This week WaterFire Providence is partnering with RI Defeats Hep C for the 6th “C is for Cure” event.

Starting at 6pm the Hep C Resource Fair, with support from the Rhode Island Department of Health, will take place on the College Street Bridge with free confidential hepatitis C screening.

Opening Ceremonies will begin with a performance of Firebird by the Festival Ballet summer intensive dance students starting at 8pm on the Basin Stage in Waterplace Park. The ballet performance will lead directly into a 100 person torch procession and the lighting of the WaterFire Braziers.

Clear Currents Community Paddling will bring their illuminated koi to the river until 10:30pm.

Clear Currents is a community paddling event that celebrates improved water quality in RI. Clear Currents features close to 60 illuminated Japanese koi (fish) temporarily mounted on canoes and kayaks that registered participants will paddle up and down the river after sunset. The brightly colored fish will beautifully compliment the 80 wood burning braziers installed on the river!

Don’t forget, you can get the evening’s music program on Spotify. This week’s playlist includes: Mike Figgis, Nick Drake, Samite Mulongo, Jimmy Cliff, the Gipsy Kings, Low Anthem, a little Bach, and some Australian Aboriginal music.

Ignition at sunset, 8:02pm, Saturday, August 3, WaterFire, downtown
