(11.24) It is not too late to contribute to the Annual Coat Exchange; just bring a donation down to the event itself on Friday morning. The Buy Nothing Day organization asks that remaining drop-offs occur between 8:30am and 11am. Winter coats, gloves, mittens, and winter hats are needed. Sweaters and sweatshirts that will keep someone warm are also appreciated.
The RI BND Coat Exchange began as a statement. It was — and is — an effort to fight back against rampant consumerism and waste while putting some goodness back into the world. We have seen devastating climate disasters this past year, the effects of which hit home when we had record low temperatures putting unhoused Rhode Islanders at great risk. This BND community was amazing in providing blankets, hand and foot warmers, food supplies, and other goods to those in need. Predictions for this winter are equally as cold as 2022, but now with massive amounts of snow.
Monetary donations are also appreciated (they are a 501(c)3 nonprofit). Expenses include U-Haul trucks for transporting the coats, purchasing new items like underwear and socks, and high-demand items like 3XL+, and kids’ coats. Donate here.
