The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) has been busy this past week stocking local ponds and lakes with trout for the Veterans Day weekend. Several thousand rainbow and brook trout have been stocked in selected areas. The locations closest to Providence would be Olney Pond in Lincoln Woods and Willet Pond in East Providence.
Go to the DEM Trout Fishing page for a complete list of restocked waters, updates, and info on regulations etc.
A 2024 fishing license is required for anglers 15 years of age and older and a Trout Conservation Stamp is required to keep or possess trout. Trout stamps are not required for persons possessing trout taken from a lake or pond that shares a border with Rhode Island. Fishing licenses can be purchased online on DEM’s Rhode Island Outdoors portal.
As always we recommend Ocean State Tackle on Branch Avenue for all your angling needs.
Attention! The DEM has issued a Red Flag warning due to the High Risk of Wildfires.
In response to the continued elevated risk of wildfires, DEM has issued a fire ban at all State Parks, campgrounds, and management areas until further notice.
This means no smoking, no firepits, no grills, and certainly no gender reveal stunts (ever again please).
(Seen here is a file photo of a typical Rhode Island pond in autumn. It is not however a participating pond so don’t go there looking for trout.)
