Doors Open ‘Fish Tornado’ At Dune Brothers

(5.15) Doors Open RI is back! Join them this Saturday as they launch their 2021 season of programming by celebrating one of the weirdest days in Providence history, the day it rained fish:

. . . on May 15, 1900, in Providence. It was an unseasonably hot day when a gust of wind picked up, growing stronger and stronger. The temperature dropped 20 degrees and then, suddenly, the sky began to rain fish. Hundreds of fish fell onto Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood.

The party takes place downtown at the the Dune Brothers seafood shack on Dyer Street. (There’s usually plenty of parking in this area on the weekend.) What to expect:

Eat a fish sandwich and hear the full story of what transpired on that day. We can’t promise you’ll actually see fish falling from the sky, but there will be other fishy surprises, bubbles, and good times. We’ll also clue you in on Doors Open RI’s plans for summer programming: Providence Waterways.

Read about the day’s events and the Providence Waterways programming at Fish Tornado! This event is free and open to the public. Tell them you are coming at the Facebook event page.

Face masks are required. Fish costumes highly recommended, but entirely optional. Please continue to practice safe social distance between yourself and others.

Fish Tornado, free, 3pm to 4pm, Saturday, May 15, Dune Brothers, 239 Dyer Street, (directions)
