This little fixer-upper is conveniently located on Harris Avenue between the the Mall and Dusk. From the Providence Preservation Society’s Most Endangered Property List for 2023:
An extension constructed in the 1920s, it originally was the Standardized Wholesale Liquors Co. building. Its location makes for a distinctive shape, notable for an oversized and recessed opening and unusual proximity to the railroad tracks, which are flush with the building’s distinctive chamfered corner.
More recently, this was the site of the Van Gogh Lounge where they hosted stabbings and shootings and such; before that it was the Monet Lounge with its bottle battles. (WPRI 8.29.16) This could be a club again, but I would avoid the Impressionist themes as that seems to attract a bad crowd.
All kidding aside, this is not a bad location and the structure is not an unwieldy shape or size. It was a functioning building only 7 years ago. It even comes with a sizeable exterior Christmas tree. The PPS adds:
It is part of the local and non-contiguous Industrial & Commercial Buildings District (ICBD) so it does have protections, but it needs some TLC to restore and convert it into new use, like much-needed housing.
