Oktoberfest In Pawtucket

(9.28) Break out the lederhosen and dirndls. It’s time for Oktoberfest and the German American Cultural Society is the place to be. “Join us for two full days of celebrating the Bavarian tradition of the Wies’n in Pawtucket!” Yes, we are sending you out of town, but this place is the last word in authenticity. The ceremonial keg tapping takes place at about 1:30pm on Saturday. The Bavarian Brothers Band plays both days. The Alpenblumen Schuhplattlers, dancers in native garb and heavy shoes, will perform throughout the weekend.

Food includes brats and sauerkraut, potato pancakes, strudel, pretzels, Burgundian waffles, black forest cake, and more.

Organizers are setting up in three separate areas:

The Outdoor Biergarten will feature bier and schnapps, and pretzels, and Burgundian waffles, and stogies, and a food tent with brats and potato pancakes. And a merch table.

The Upstairs Bierhalle is where they have rows of long tables and I think everyone hoists big steins of beer while waving back and forth singing songs. There is a stage.

The Downstairs Ratskeller is also a bar of course, but this where you can get coffee and visit the “cake table.” The kitchen offers a full range of brats: “Our wurst is the best!”

Please drive carefully, or not at all. No pets: service animals only. Free admission for children 12-and-under.  Oktoberfest will be held rain or shine; all ticket sales are final, no refunds. More at FB.

Entertainment on Saturday:

Ceremonial Festbier Keg Tapping: 1:30pm
DJ playing traditional “W’iesn” tunes: 1-4pm

Bavarian Brothers: Saturday: 6-10pm, Sunday: 1-5pm

I don’t know why they hold this in September. Maybe they are all headed for Bavaria next week.

$12/day of at door, 1pm to11pm, Saturday/noon to 5pm, Sunday, September 28 & 29, German American Cultural Society, 76 Carter Street, Pawtucket, (directions)
