Full Moon Walk — RWP

(11.15) November’s full supermoon reaches peak illumination on Friday, November 15. This will be our fourth and final supermoon of the year. Why not get away from the city lights and take a guided hike in Roger Williams Park:

Explore the moonlit trails of Roger Williams Park with the Museum of Natural History and Roger Williams Park Conservancy. Learn more about the night sky and history of the park. Free walk meets at the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium. Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Mild hike with some hills and uneven terrain. Pets and strollers are not permitted.

To be designated as a supermoon, the moon must be full on the day it is at its perigee, or closest distance to the earth. The Weather Channel has some facts as well as a video showing what else to look for in the November sky. Also, why do we call this the Beaver Moon?

November’s full moon gets its name from the busy animals with their strong tails. One popular belief for the folk origin of the name “Beaver Moon” has to do with beaver behavior this time of year: many North American beavers are preparing their dams and lodges, and slowly getting ready to retreat into them for the winter.

The walk will meet in front of the Museum of Natural History. (The museum is temporarily closed for renovations. It will reopen to the public on Saturday, December 7th.)

Free, Full Moon Walk, 6:30pm to 7:30pm, Friday, November 15, RWP, 1000 Elmwood Avenue, (directions)
