India Point Park Gets A Makeover

It’s not quite ready yet — there is still planting to do and the lawn needs reseeding — but the hardscaping seems to be almost finished. The city is aiming for a mid-April opening for this new waterfront plaza but for now the construction area is still fenced off. New features include permeable pavers, benches, very sturdy looking tables (two of the new tables are ADA compliant), and weather-tolerant trees.

New to the park are four swinging benches. All of this will come in handy when (maybe next year?) the new music venue goes in across the way at Bold Point. Listening to music from this side of the water is quite pleasant . . . and free.

Wheeler Cowperthwaite writes in the ProJo:

The plaza isn’t the only thing getting changed at the park. The playground is getting a new boat for toddlers, a new concrete pad, swings and a slide. New trash cans have also been installed throughout the park.

The pedestrian bridge over the highway lines up with East Street.

It’ll be nice just swinging and looking down the bay.
