The Steel Yard Gears Up For Fall Courses

The Steel Yard is firing up torches, building forges, and igniting kilns in preparation for the upcoming class season; and are happy to announce that registration is now open for the fall course season!

This fall the Steel Yard is offering classes in blacksmithing, ceramics, foundry arts, jewelry, and welding. Students will be able to learn the fundamentals of forging in Basic Blacksmithing, make a wearable keepsake in Locket Making, or cast molten iron to produce unique sculptures in Iron Cast Sculpture Using Two-Part Sand Mold.  Students inclined towards ceramics can register for Slip Casting, Wheel Generate Form, or Handbuilding. People interested in metalworking can get a comprehensive overview in one of our most popular courses, Introduction to Welding. The Steel Yard is also excited to unveil our newly renovated blacksmithing shop, where students can learn to forge texturing tools in Texturing: Creating Your Own Stamps, Touchmarks, and Chasing Tools.

The Steel Yard makes it home at the site of the former Steel and Iron Company on Sims Avenue. With over 9,000 square feet of workshop and studio space, the Steel Yard offers a variety of opportunities to learn new skills, build on previously learned skill sets, and acquire new methods for growing your small business. Courses are taught by knowledgeable and talented instructors; and class sizes are kept small to provide the best possible experience for enrolled students.
