Is there a building in your neighborhood in on life-support? Teetering on the brink but full of potential? The Providence Preservation Society (PPS) is taking nominations for the next ‘Most Endangered Properties’ list. (Click here to fill out online nomination form. Deadline October 30th.) More info at Greater City: Providence.
Every year, PPS assembles the Most Endangered Properties list to highlight historic resources that are endangered by threats such as neglect, deterioration, demolition, development, insufficient funds, and adverse public policy. We rely on you to be our eyes and ears in the community, helping to identify threatened historic resources in Providence.
And don’t limit the possible candidates — past ‘PPS Most Endangered Properties’ lists have included churches, temples, zoo buildings, schools, mills, bakeries, you name it. And then there is the Wedding Cake House, more properly, the 1867 Kendrick-Prentice-Tirocchi House at 514 Broadway. Making the list for the third time this year, the structure is getting a bit wobbly.
After years of vacancy, the iconic Kendrick-Prentice-Tirocchi House (1867) is in dire need of repair and we need your help to secure its future. Even as the house is for sale, it continues to deteriorate. Your donation will go directly to the Providence Revolving Fund and be used to stabilize the tower, batten down the roof, reinforce the foundation, keep it secure, and maintain it until a new owner can be found. (Yes, it’s for sale!)
To facilitate this goal an IndieGoGo campaign has been established: Preserve Prentice PVD, and it looks like tickets are still available for the Prentice Party on Thursday, October 15. A donation of $250 gets you and a friend champers and a tour of the structure!
Two tickets to a Champagne tour at Prentice with Clark Schoettle, Executive Director of the Providence Revolving Fund. Enjoy cake and champagne the Wedding Cake House! Tour will take place on October 15, 2015, from 5-7pm. Details will be sent by email in advance.
