(11.1) The first ever Providence Art & Design Film Festival runs this weekend at the Cable Car Cinema. What a great idea. Husband and wife owners Dan Kamil and Emily Steffian formed the Providence Center for Media Culture following receipt of the R.I. Foundation innovation grant earlier this year. This festival is the Center’s first offering. The honors continued when in September the Cable Car was honored by the Sundance Institute’s Art House Convergance
among its first class of Art House Project theaters, those “that embody a benchmark of excellence in programming, community involvement and operations.”
They are really getting it done over there. Seen here is “Larger than Life” (November 1st) a profile of Florentijn Hofman and his adorable enormous public sculptures.
(Also screening on November 1st, “Brian Chippendale,” a profile of local artist/musician . . . Brian Chippendale.)
