New Lovecraft Lager Launch At Arcade

(1.19) The latest in the Lovecraft-themed brews makes its debut Thursday night at the Arcade Providence. These so-called block parties take place indoors on the ground floor avenue, with people wandering in and out of participating shops and restaurants. (Facebook event.)

About the beer: Made in collaboration with Revival brewer Sean Larkin, the new Unnamable Black Lager is described by Gansett Brewery as follows:

This Black Lager is brewed with Chocolate Rye, Cara Red, Carafra Special 1, and Pilsner Malts for a roasty brew with notes of toffee, caramel, coffee, and dark chocolate. Citra hops add an extra bite of bitterness and a touch of citrus to the finish.

About the label: Rhode Island artist Jarrett McPhee executed the label art on this, the sixth, installment of the Lovecraft series. This information comes courtesy of the namable Lou Papineau over at Bottles & Cans & Clap Your Hands who adds,

The beer [7.5% ABV] was inspired by the short story “The Unnamable” [written in 1923 and published in the July 1925 issue of Weird Tales], which relates “two men discussing, and later encountering, something horrifying and truly unnamable,” per the ’Gansettites.

I love the little guy on the lower right. And yes, Thursday is Edgar Allan Poe’s birthday! So . . . drink up? Whatever. Free samples of the new brew for those 21+.

Obviously Rogue Island, New Harvest, and the Lovecraft Arts & Sciences Council will be open for the duration of the party. But walk around and check it all out.

6:30pm to 11pm, Thursday, January 19, Arcade Providence, 65 Weybosset Street, (directions)

  1. Thanks for the write up guys, I’m the artist, and I’m stoked on how the label came out.
