(10.16) Organist Gary Phillips returns to the Providence Performing Arts Center this Wednesday for a free lunch hour concert. Mr. Phillips performed last May under less than ideal circumstances:
Last week’s performance by Gary Phillips was masterful, made all the more impressive by the fact that his thumb had been stitched up and bandaged due to a recent table saw accident.
Phillips interspersed an eclectic and entertaining program with effects demonstrations: We heard the glockenspiel, the orchestral oboe, and my favorite, the “bee in the bottle.” Let’s hope he has given up carpentry.
The show starts when Wurlitzer rises dramatically from the pit. Seen here is Mr Phillips, photographed last May.
(Save the Date: Wednesday, October 24, when organist Peter Krasinski will accompany Buster Keaton’s silent movie, “The Haunted House.”)
Free and open to the public, noon to 1pm, Wednesday, October 17, PPAC, 220 Weybosset Street, (directions)
