The RISD Museum will be hosting the ‘Art + Feminism Wikipedia Editathon’ this Thursday.
Wikipedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. In a 2011 survey, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors were women. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity is not: content is skewed by the lack of representation from women.
Let’s change that.
We will provide tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, reference materials, free food, and a cash bar. Bring your laptop (a handful will be provided), power cord, and ideas for entries that need updating or creation—or choose from a list of suggested entries relating to the Museum’s collection and RISD’s history.
They suggest that you create a Wikipedia account before the event. You can learn how to do that here. Registration requested.
Thursday is Gallery Night so admission to the museum is free.
Free, 5pm to 8:30pm, Thursday, March 21, RISD Museum, 20 North Main Street, (directions)
