Boy, the Bolsheviks didn’t have this many posters. Don’t get me wrong, I’m loving it. Governor Raimondo has just announced an initiative that will allow Rhode Islanders to share their artwork by posting it on social media with the tag #RIArts. Meanwhile, Shepard Fairey made us an inspirational poster, images of which are being projected onto the sides of two RISD buildings. These two things are connected somehow. I just don’t know how. From Fairey:
This piece was created to celebrate the courage of healthcare workers specifically, and generally symbolize the spirit of hope, strength, compassion, and resilience that we can all find in ourselves and share collectively.
Go to the RIArts website for more info and to download the image. Seen here is the RISD Auditorium on Market Square.
Amplifer, a design lab that creates builds art to amplify the voices of grassroots movements, got involved with this Shepard Fairey poser.
In response to COVID-19, Amplifier launched an emergency campaign with top art curators and public-health advisors from around the world looking for public health and safety messages that can help flatten the curve through education and symbols that help promote mental health, well-being, and social change work during these stressful times.
With all of the stresses coronavirus puts on healthcare workers, public servants, and the public psyche in mind, I created this art piece, “Angel of Hope and Strength.” This piece was created to celebrate the courage of healthcare workers specifically, and generally symbolize the spirit of hope, strength, compassion, and resilience that we can all find in ourselves and share collectively.
The Rhode Island design is the original. It has since been adapted for the general audience.

Where did he find this “health care worker” image? What is that hat? Exactly how does that jacket? shirt? scrub? unbutton so it can be taken off? Why does her uniform look more like some 1920s Russian factory worker’s than that of someone on America’s 2020 front-line health-care. How come no face mask or stethoscope dangling around her neck?
Did he even look at an image of a real EMT? C’mon, Shepard, you can do a lot better than this.
