Ideas For ‘401 Gives’

It’s a date . . . it’s an area code . . . it’s a day for giving to local non-profits. If your inbox did not explode this morning with suggestions, we have a few you can use:

The Rhode Island Community Food Bank will put your donation to good use; rising food costs have hit struggling families hard. Dorcas International is another organization with a stellar record and years of experience.

We can all rest a little more easily with Common Cause RI is keeping an eye on things. Thanks to a generous donor they have a $1,000 dollar-for-dollar match in effect this weekend for 401Gives.

Attention Men: Make a big big donation to Planned Parenthood of Southern New England. It will put you in good with the women in your life. It’s the least you can do.

Help make our state safer from gun violence — donate to the Rhode Island Gun Violence Education Fund.

And we all need music: Community MusicWorks has broken ground for a new community music center on Westminster Street. For those leaning more towards the punk/rock/metal scene there’s RIOTRI (formerly Girls Rock RI).

Double your impact when you support the Roger Williams Park Zoo. Starting at 4:01pm today, up to the first $25,000 raised will be matched by the RI Foundation.

Feel good by doing good.

Go to 401 Gives for more information.

Go to Charity Navigator to check the rating of your chosen organization. You want your money to help those in need, not pay for executive retreats.
