Things To Do — 195 District Park

The 195 District Park, while it lasts, provides an enormous expanse of open space right in the middle of town by the river. It’s very pleasant down there. Events have been ongoing and scheduled through October. The Guild Beer Garden is open Thursdays through Sundays, with live music on Fridays. And Dune Brothers Seafood is right across Dyer Street. Here’s whats coming up:

Thursday, August 24, 7:30pm: Providence Children’s Film Festival. The (free) popcorn will be poppin’ as you set up your picnic blankets and chairs for the show, and the Guild Beer Garden will be open until 8pm.

Saturday, August 26, 5pm: Xylophones and Marimbas in the Park. Create music in a relaxed setting! No experience necessary. Michelle will bring specially created wood and metal xylophones of varying sizes. Some of the instruments, designed by Carl Orff, have removable bars.

Saturday, 7:30pm: 48-Hour film Festival. “48HFP has gathered some of the best, latest, and funnest films into a small collection and are showing them for free to the public. Grab a chair, a blanket, and some snacks and come sit out under the stars for this unique event.”

Tuesday, August 29, 6pm: Providence Drum Troupe goes bonkers on the pedestrian bridge.

At other times you can find yoga sessions, poetry, and even hula hoop. Go here for complete schedule of events.
