Volunteer Now — Prop Fabrication At Steel Yard

The 18th annual Iron Pour at the Steel Yard approaches! This wildly theatrical display of the industrial arts requires lots of planning and preparation. Organizers extend this invitation to the public:

If you’re interested in flexing your creative muscle and helping produce our funnest (that’s not a word!) event of the year, then we’ve got the volunteer event for you! Each week leading up to the Iron Pour, we’re hosting Prop Fabrication Nights. We are seeking skilled volunteers to work under the supervision of seasoned fabricators and staff, to design and fabricate larger than life sculptures that are the mainstay of the event.

Registration is required. Go here to sign up for a Volunteer Opportunity. The Iron Pour this year takes place October 21st. Here is how the folks at the Steel Yard describe this unique seasonal event:

Our trained Pour crew will harness the power of our custom-built iron tilt-furnace to pour over 2,500 pounds of luminous, molten iron. Larger than life sculptures will be activated by fire and the molten metal. People return annually not only for the sparky performance and the numerous steel and iron props that we build in our own studio, but also for the phenomenal local music and food.

They will be needing volunteers each week leading up to the Iron Pour — prop fabrication is scheduled for Wednesday evenings.

Also, a call for vendors for the Iron Pour Art Market.

Prop Fabrication Night, 6pm to 9pm, Wednesday, September 20, Steel Yard, 27 Sims Avenue, (directions)
