Good Luck America

The following is a list of countries who have elected or appointed a woman as head of state or government: Pakistan, New Zealand, Germany, Iceland, India, Thailand, Israel, United Kingdom, Norway, Philippines, Ireland, France, Poland, Turkey, Lithuania, Finland, Belgium, Latvia, Sweden, Honduras, Mexico, and more. America is still waiting to join this list, but I am not optimistic.

Our democracy is already being dismantled from the inside out. You may not notice where and how until you try accessing some agency for help: Maybe something goes wrong with your social security check, or you need to to talk to someone at the IRS, good luck. You will be on hold forever.

Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich provided this definition of the form of government now at hand. (He would also have made an excellent president, but he is short, which is almost as bad as being a woman.)

Oligarchy: A government of and by a few at the top, who exercise power for their own benefit. Their power and wealth increase as they make laws that favor themselves, manipulate financial markets, and create monopolies that put more wealth into their pockets.

And this may soon look a lot like a theocracy, although none of these men believe in anything but power and money. Certainly not some hippie named Jesus.

I’m pretty pessimistic so I’ve decided to donate to the ACLU, who are ready and waiting to throw sand in the gears at every turn, and then I can tell myself I’m doing something.

And I’m only going to focus on the next two years. A lot can happen in two years — I’m looking at you Grim Reaper!

I had a problem last year and needed to call the IRS. Never could get a real person until I found a “hack” on Reddit, that was essentially a 14 step process (not kidding, look it up). So why are you insinuating it will be worse? 17 steps? Why is this a Trump-driven concern?

  2. Perhaps those countries had better female candidates?

I’m not sure where the Oligarchy concerns were when Soros’ guy was in the big chair. Maybe I missed that part?

An old friend of mine once said “when the President does well, we all do well.” How about we give this a bit of a chance. I was no fan of the last guy, but I felt like he deserved at least 2 years to see what he could do. Being negative on the first day is just being a bad sport.
