The Lumina 2025 Festival begins Saturday, February 1st, when illuminated installations begin appearing downtown. This year’s light festival will feature POP! by Gentilhomme, a public art installation consisting of five glowing monoliths, each containing an inflatable creature. I always felt that more could be done with the inflatable tube man format; apparently I was not alone. I’m inclined to like these guys. Visitors can entice the creatures to leave their monoliths by talking or singing to them. The monoliths will get brighter throughout the interaction until the creature eventually shows itself.
From GoPVD:
Additional installations will include “Harmonies,” a collection of life-sized instruments throughout downtown, and “Light Lane,” featuring bikes that you can pedal to create vibrant sound and light projections.
Events are planned in and around the Biltmore Park and the Providenc Rink for the weekend of February 7 & 8.
Last year’s light installations were nice but spread too far apart and not near regular nighttime foot traffic. Looks like some lessons were learned.
