Bad News For Women . . . And Everyone Else

In June of 2019 Rhode Island signed into law the Reproductive Privacy Act (RPA). Thanks to the forward thinking of a coalition of advocacy groups, including Planned Parenthood and the RI Democratic Women’s Caucus, we have codified the protections that 80% of Americans had assumed were protected under Roe v. Wade. At the time, Planned Parenthood of NE acknowledged the relevant legislators:

We must thank our elected officials, especially Representatives Anastasia P. Williams and Edith Ajello, Senator Gayle Goldin, Senate Judiciary Chair Erin Lynch Prata, and Senate Health and Human Services Chair Joshua Miller, who have long championed reproductive freedom and were instrumental in leading this bill through both houses of the General Assembly.

Laurence Tribe sees bleak days ahead if this draconian Mississippi law is given the Supreme Court’s seal of approval. From the Boston Globe:

Harvard Law School professor Laurence Tribe warned on Twitter Tuesday that if the draft opinion by Alito becomes law more than the right to a safe abortion is at risk: Same sex marriage, access to contraception, and other “unenumerated” rights could also come to an end.

DONATE NOW: The Cut has an unbelievably comprehensive state-by-state list of relevant organizations who are fighting for women’s reproductive rights on their home turf.

Indivisible is calling for demonstrations today at Federal Courthouses around the country.

All over the country, at the Supreme Court and federal district courts, we’re asking everyone to rally at 5pm today, May 3, local in town squares, in front of federal courthouses, and the Supreme Court to declare #BansOffOurBodies and abortion is health care. Can’t make it today? Over the next few days, we’ll be supporting and coordinating with partners like Planned Parenthood, NARAL, MoveOn, UltraViolet, and others to plan mass mobilizations and other actions. We’ll share those plans via email and text message. (If you’re not on our rapid response text team, text INDIVISIBLE to 59798, and we’ll get you set up.)

And for god’s sake leave the pussy hats at home. This is serious.

(No demonstration was evident at our Federal Building as of 5pm. Maybe later.)
