(3.8) The annual Providence St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off tomorrow at noon. The parade starts at Smith Street at Wyndham and continues down Smith to the State House. I am not a big fan of parades, but I was glad I went to this last year. It featured marching bands with pipes and drums, Irish dancers, the Providence Mounted Command, and back by popular demand . . . politicians!
The Providence Journal spoke with Grand Marshal Jim Riley about this year’s line-up:
Featured groups will include fife and drum corps, including the famous Ancient Mariners of Guilford, Connecticut. Big Nazo puppets will make the scene, along with 40 Jeeps from 401 Jeep Wave. Irish dancers and Irish organizations will abound, as well as the celebrated Bolivian Dancers. Many labor and union groups will march this year, along with municipalities and elected officials. Many schools will be represented from across the state.
The map on the website indicates that the parade steps off at Smith and Wyndham streets. Other sources say Smith and Hilltop. Just head over there. Or pick a spot anywhere along the route or at the end at the State House.
The weather will be breezy but clear. Seen here is last year’s St. Patrick who totally nailed it.
