Spelling Bee At AS220

Not About The Buildings

(9.26) More fun than an Aquacade — many will compete, but only one will win. It’s time for another Not About The Buildings Spelling Bee at AS220. Here’s what you need to know:

The Bee starts at 9pm. Signups start at 8:30pm and are limited to the first 36 spellers, so get there on time if you’d like to compete. It’s $7 to spell but free to watch, so feel bring your own cheering section.

Even if you don’t want to spell, you can still take part; this is the rare spelling bee where you can actually place bets on the winner. Select the right speller and you too could go home with some fabulous prizes that have been donated by local businesses and organizations.

JP Reader will once again be judging and Kath Connolly will again be reading definitions. Jason Tranchida will be playing the part of the bookie and Matthew Lawrence, your host, will once again be putting words into a sentence for you. (Here’s a helpful list of previously misspelled words.) See also the NATB’s Spelling Bee Study Guide: 26 stories about 26 letters.

In addition to being the most fun thing you could possibly do on a Thursday, the Bee is also the largest/only fundraiser for Not About The Buildings. All the money raised at the Bee helps fund the year-round literary events Not About The Buildings puts on in Providence.

Doors 8pm, registration 8:30pm, showtime 9pm to 1am-ish, Thursday, September 26, AS220, 115 Empire Street
