Meet Dylan . . . more on him later. With Record Store Day just around the corner (Black Friday, November 25) we thought we would showcase some of the participating local stores. The first installment is Armageddon Shop, which distinguishes itself by having a vast cd selection and a massive vinyl commitment in the metal/hardcore/punk categories. But also tees, books, zines, dvd’s, and tapes.
I had hoped to discover which special RSD releases the owners had requested this year — store proprietors submit a wish list to the national organization, but never know exactly what they will receive until the boxes arrive — but they were not in. Among the artists to choose from this year are: Anthrax, the Afghan Whigs, both Alices (Cooper and In Chains), Chet Baker, the Bangles, Dungen, Extreme, Iron Maiden, Napalm Death, the ‘Popeye soundtrack with Harry Nilsson, Iggy, Tull, and Run-D.M.C. ‘Christmas in Hollis.’ Go here to view the 2016 RSD List.
As to Dylan (who has a very agreeable ‘George Harrison’ thing going on with the eyebrows) he will be playing with a new addition to the local metal scene, Demolition Boys. Their influences include Judas Priest, Girlschool. Check ’em out: 9pm, Saturday, $5, downtown at Tommy’s Place, with openers Hell Bent.
