Check out Chamonix Antiques the new antique home furnishings store on the Westminster side of the Arcade. The eclectic inventory includes posters, carpets, furniture, jewelry, lighting fixtures, wall art, vases, textiles, a globe, all with an emphasis on mid-century modern, art deco, and arts and crafts. But as owner Jess Rochefort explained earlier today, the true organizing principal behind the inventory is . . . anything we like. Jess and husband Nick opened the first Chamonix location last August in Scituate, adding the Providence storefront this week. (And the name? They just like the sound of the word “chamonix,” and Nick’s beloved, old BMW is “chamonix white.”)
Jess and Nick met six year ago at the Rhode Island Antiques Mall which is kind of perfect. He was a dealer . . . she was a shopper . . . and I promised I would not make it sound like a Meg Ryan movie.
Store hours for now: Mon-Sat, 11-6/Sunday, 10-5. (Facebook page.)
