Transcription Party At SoS Archives

(2.20) Volunteers needed. Must bring laptop! Sorry to be a little late on this, but it seems like a program that would be ongoing. The Rhode Island State Archives is organizing their first transcription party and they need help from the public.

We will be exploring and transcribing handwritten documents and manuscripts to decipher history, discover facts, and bring 21st century approachability to these dynamic records.

As a transcriber, you will get a firsthand view of genuine manuscripts written by Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, Abraham Lincoln, and more. Then using digitally enhanced scans, you will examine and transcribe each document to your laptop.

No experience necessary. If you can read, type, and love history, you can do this!

When you finish up, you will find yourself within easy walking distance of several restaurants/pubs — make a night of it with your new friends.

4:30pm to 7pm, Tuesday, February 20, RI State Archives, 337 Westminster Street, (directions)
