(4.4) The kids call it their “magic minute.” The ritual of the ‘Good Night Lights’ started in 2015 between the patients in Hasbro Children’s Hospital and the gang at the Hot Club. The kids call it the “magic minute.”
Every night at 8:30pm the crew at the Hot Club flashes its sign (patrons join in with flashlights) and the kids signal back with their own flashlights. Since then the East Providence police have joined in from Veterans Memorial Parkway. Go to the Hasbro Children’s Hospital website to watch the report done by NBC News and meet Steven Brosnahan who initiated this whole thing.
This Wednesday (weather may be an issue) you can join Dunkin Donuts at India Point Park where they will be filming an ad featuring the Good Night Lights. (Facebook event page.)
Dunkin’ Donuts has decided to promote Good Night Lights around “Iced Coffee Day” in May, an annual event that sends $1 for every iced coffee sold in Rhode Island (and nearby MA) to Hasbro Children’s Hospital. DD will be promoting GNL in its shops and through media, including a TV commercial. On this Wednesday, April 4th, there will be a video shoot for the promotion at India Point Park in Providence. YOU are invited to participate–and this may be that chance you’ve been looking for to get in on the GNL tradition for the first time. Bring your brightest flashlight and look forward to pizza and DD beverages. Participants are asked to show up between 6-6:30 and be ready for multiple, directed takes to meet the needs of the video team.
They suggest that parking is best along India Street and on the other side of the footbridge near Vartan Gregorian Elementary School, and ask that you RSVP to this page if you think you can make it.
The sun sets on 7:14pm, so this will take a few hours. Since its inception, Iced Coffee Day has raised over $1 million for the hospital (more or less where the arrow points in this photo).
