Things To Know About Living Here Now

Big thanks to Providence City Councilman David A. Salvatore* for sending out a useful list of links available city services and organizations who may need your help. These are a few biggies.

1) The RI Blood Center has an urgent need for blood and platelet donors for coronavirus preparedness. (They can not test for COVID-19.) Go here for FAQ and to make an appointment.

2) Providence is offering “Grab and Go” dinners in addition to “Grab and Go” breakfasts and lunches. Go here for info and hours.

3) The Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has directed all electric, gas, water, and wastewater utilities regulated by the PUC to stop collection activity including terminations for nonpayment. The moratorium extends to April 15, 2020 for residential customers and March 31, 2020 for other classes.

4) The Rhode Island Board of Elections voted to request an executive order to move the April 28, 2020 Presidential Preference Primary to June 2, 2020. One of the best ways to practice social distancing, is to vote by mail. Click here for a mail ballot application.

5) The Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless has created a statewide list of meal sites for vulnerable residents. If you know somebody who needs assistance, please share this important information with them.

6) Governor Raimondo announced an executive order that requires health insurance companies to temporarily cover all medically-appropriate telehealth visits. Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island has provided guidance for neighbors.

*Mr. Salvatore is not my councilperson but he never fails to impress. Always thoughtful, informed, and open-minded — he’s a keeper.
