Online this year of course. The good news is that Brown University’s annual Ivy Film Festival is open to all and free. The bad news is that there will be no sightings of Sacha Baron Cohen and Mindy Kaling chowing down on falafel at East Side Pockets. (Their loss.) Events kick off on March 30th and run through April 6th. (Love the ‘Yellow Submarine’ look of the poster.)
The Facebook event page has the schedule and how to sign in.
Of interest to music fans: On Saturday, Randall Poster: Meet the man behind the music in every movie you love. Poster’s enormous body of work includes recent productions like Queen’s Gambit, Pretend It’s a City, and Joker, as well as underseen gems like School of Rock, Popstar: Never Stop the Never Stopping and The Wolfpack. His resumé also includes local faves Moonrise Kingdom and The Polka King (filmed at the Columbus Theatre).
Because there is no charge for participating:
While Ivy Film Festival remains free and open to the public, in lieu of an admission price, we invite you to join us in supporting the Rhode Island Free Clinic, New Urban Arts, and Red Canary Song. The Rhode Island Free Clinic mobilizes vital health resources for RI’s uninsured adults, from COVID-19 health concerns to vaccination distribution and care for patients with chronic conditions. The New Urban Arts Initiative is a year-round out-of-school program that provides low-income youth in communities of color access to high-quality, creative learning opportunities. Red Canary Song is a grassroots Chinese massage parlor worker coalition in the U.S. They help fight for access to labor rights, political representation, and collective organizing. We are grateful for any contribution.
(Last year the IFF spoke with Aaron Sorkin and Jeremy Strong about the making of “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”)
Free and open to the public, IFF runs March 30 thru April 6
