(6.6) Help celebrate what would have been Judy Garland’s 100th birthday, with special showings of The Wizard of Oz. The incomparable Miss Garland was born Frances Ethel Gumm on June 10, 1922. The screenings will take place across the country on June 5 & 6.
The Fathom Events website promises “a rarely seen extended musical number!” I assume that will run separately from the movie proper. (The movie’s Wiki page discusses music which had been cut from the original.
If you have never watched this film in a theater you are in for a treat. In 1998, Warner Bros. released a ‘special edition’ for the film’s 60th anniversary, digitally restored with remastered audio. I saw it then and was bowled over by the details I had never noticed — scarecrow’s face is burlap! And of course the music sounds great on the theater’s sound system.
The film is rated G (for Glinda) but sensitive children may occasionally dive under the seats. Running time: 1 hour, 42 minutes. Three shows over two days:
3pm & 7pm, Sunday, June 5
3pm, Monday, June 6
