‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture’ At Mall

Enjoy ‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture — The Director’s Edition’ on the big screen, and in air-conditioned comfort, this Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. The initial 1979 version — which proved to be review-proof, turning tepid notices into big box office — has been restored and remastered with enhanced visual effects. Maybe Director Robert Wise has made some necessary adjustments; I doubt he made it shorter.

From Roger Ebert’s review at the time:

There is, I suspect, a sense in which you can be too sophisticated for your own good when you see a movie like this. Some of the early reviews seemed pretty blase, as if the critics didn’t allow themselves to relish the film before racing out to pigeonhole it. My inclination, as I slid down in my seat and the stereo sound surrounded me, was to relax and let the movie give me a good time. I did and it did.

Screenings: 3pm, Sunday, May 22/ 7pm, Monday, May 23/ 7pm, Wednesday, May 25.

Rated G. Running time: 2 hours, 12 minutes. Starring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley.
