Wayland Bakery Closing

(12.31) The Wayland Bakery will be closing. Saturday will be their final day of operation. A little history from the Wayland Bakery website:

The Wayland Bakery has been a Providence landmark for more than 80 years. Opened in 1928, the bakery moved to its current location in 1960. The Basilico family operated the bakery until it was sold in 1999 to Luis Rodriguez. Today, Luis runs the bakery with his wife, Elizabeth. All baking is done on the premises, and is of the highest quality.

This shop with its iconic sign has been a fixture in the neighborhood for so many years — it’s hard to imagine it not being there. Nobody seems to know what the future holds for this location.

GoLocal spoke with current owner, Luis Rodriguez:

Now, Rodriguez has decided it is time to move on, and is selling the business — and the building — which is expected to be finalized this week.

That is a little worrisome. But we wish the Rodriguez family the best of luck . . . and thank you.
