(12.9) For the first time in the 124-year history of the Army-Navy series, the game will be played in New England, and Providence has rolled out the welcome mat. On Friday, over 700 Navy midshipmen will be pulling into Providence to check into the luxurious ‘Fair Winds Suites’ (a.k.a. Gina’s sick bay*) at the RI Convention Center where the team can hopefully rest up for Saturday’s big game at Gillette Stadium. Also on their way will be an enormous cohort of family, friends, fans, and veterans — people who do not need a good night’s sleep — and they will be checking into hotels and going out to eat and drink. And there will be a WWE Smackdown happening next door at the AMP on Friday night as well. In other words: Driving through or near this part of town, without a damn good reason, should be avoided.
Don’t have a ticket for the game? There will be a Fan Fest up at Gillette, free for fans all day Thursday and Friday. (This is for ticket-holders only on Saturday.)
Fans will get an up-close look and chance to take photos with U.S. Army tanks and U.S. Navy assets, as well as enjoy giveaways and activations by Army-Navy Game sponsors USAA, Chevrolet, the Exchange, Palantir and Duke Cannon. Additionally, fans will be able to visit the Gillette Stadium concourse to see the official 2023 Army-Navy Game field, as well as the official game branding on the Gillette Stadium video boards.
We have already discussed the awesome new uniforms.
*Actually, Convention Center GM, Larry Lepore, has done a pretty remarkable job.
