I never get tired of this. So it looks like just the two nestlings this year — but look how they’ve grown! Let’s face it, twins must get more food, and sooner, than when the poor pigeon has to be divided four+ ways. And as it happens, urban wildlife photographer Peter Green of Providence Raptors […]
Glad I checked the nesting box today. The Audubon Society of Rhode Island (ASRI) is pretty excited: Happy Hatch Day! The Providence Peregrine clutch has begun to hatch! Tune in and watch as the eyases emerge. When I first checked the peregrine webcam, one parent was just sitting there covering eggs and chicks, but suddenly
I count four . . . I think. There were four eggs and it looks like they have all hatched. The first hatchling arrived on the last day of April. They are basically just balls of white fuzz at this point. Go here to watch the Audubon Society Peregrine Webcam and make a donation. They
And then there were three. This was the scene this morning. The picture below was taken yesterday. You can see that the more mature of the siblings still have downy white tufts sticking out, but they have started flapping out of the box. Sometimes they are out of camera range — investigating the rooftop at
It’s insane how fast these guys grow! It’s official, four out of five of the eggs have hatched with one of the nestlings being noticeably smaller than the rest. I remember having this concern last year — would the runt successfully compete at feeding time — but all of those nestlings thrived and eventually took
Heads up, pedestrians. These peregrine parents are fastidious housekeepers and fly the picked-over bird carcasses out of the box asap. It’s unclear where the leftovers end up. Are they scattered around the roof, or are they falling to the sidewalks below? Seems like we’d hear about that. So what are they eating? Fun fact of
It’s that time of the year again. The Audubon Society of Rhode Island has turned on the Peregrine Falcon webcam atop the Superman Building. By March 31st there were four eggs in the nest. The female (guessing here) occasionally gets up to fiddle with the clutch but there really isn’t a whole lot of action
You go . . . no, you go . . . I’ll go if you go. This will be the last peregrine update as the nesting box without the adorable nestlings will be quite nauseating to behold. The first report was just last month when they were four tiny, fuzzy little snowballs. You could practically
